With a construction area of 320,000 square meters, "1933 Shanghai" is located at No.10, Shajing Road of Hongkou District near the intersection of Shajing Port and Hongkou Port water systems. It used to be Shanghai Fareast No.1 Slaughter House constructed in 1933.  Designed by a British Designer called Barlfus, it was built by Yuhongji Building Factory which was very famous in Shanghai at that time. The concrete structure building shows the basilica style of ancient Rome period.
As excellent historical building in Shanghai, protective reconstruction was implemented on the building under the support of Hongkou District in 2006, and it was turned into a well known center of creative industry in the city.

It focuses on creative designs, exhibition, and experience of fashion life, and so on. At present, a number of original design companies, international media marketing enterprises, world famous wedding photography brands, and 3D printing companies have entered 1933 Shanghai. It has also held a variety of international fashion events successfully, such as, the Third Shanghai International Creative Industry Week, New Products Release Conference of Ferrari, Rado, Porsche, and other brands, Paris Art and Design Exhibition, Denmark Day,  and so on. It began the exploration on the establishment of cultural creative platform in 2010. In April, 2011, the Sky Theater was put into use and well-known dramas have staged in the theater successfully. It has built original Shanghai drama incubation public service platform in cooperation with Shanghai Academy of Drama, Shanghai Drama Art Center and Hongkou Creative Industry Center.
After the reconstruction, 1933 Shanghai has become an important window of creative exhibition and an attractive tourism site in Hongkou District and even Shanghai. It was visited by leaders of the Party and the Country, investigation groups from China and abroad, and celebrities. The number of visitors was about 300,000 annually.
The protection, utilization, and development of 1933 Shanghai is not only good for the building itself but also promotes the development of Hongkou District. With its unique architectural style and artistic glamor, it has promoted the development of creative industry and become a new landmark of Shanghai fashion circle. As a good example, it would influence the related development of the surrounding area too.

So far, the honors of 1933 Shanghai are as follows:
In January, 2004, it was named as "Historical Relics" by Cultural Relics Management Committee of Hongkou District;
In October, 2005, it was listed in the fourth batch of Excellent Historical Building by Shanghai Municipal Government;
In 2007, it was awarded as "National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Site of 2007";
In October, 2008, it was honored as "the Best Creative Industry Center in Shanghai in 2008";
In November, 2008, it was honored as "Excellent Creative Industry Center 2008 Ceremony of Creative Industry";
In 2010, it was listed in the first batch of "Demonstrative Creation Industry Centers of Shanghai";
In 2010, it was included in the key recommended places for visit in Shanghai during the World Expo.
